Both acupuncture and Tui Na (TuiNa) work within the Chinese medical model to diagnose and treat a wide variety of ailments. This is because the focus is not just the patient's immediate ailments but how these fit into the wider picture of their being as a whole, taking into consideration the interplay between physical, mental/emotional and lifestyle factors in order to tailor the diagnosis and treatment to the individual.
With this in mind, Chinese medicine can help with: musculoskeletal complaints such as pain, restricted movement and weakness; stress and anxiety; systemic problems with breathing, digestion, sleep; or low energy and motivation to name a few.
Since a core principle of Chinese medicine diagnosis is to look at the patient from many angles Tim may ask questions relating to not only your main complaints but also how these may be affecting or be affected by essential functions such as sleep, respiration, digestion and menstruation as well as your emotional wellbeing and medical history. Palpation and observation of the body is also used to help focus and corroborate findings.
Similarly, treatment follows this principle. Tim will treat using local and related distant areas of the body. For instance, with lower back pain, acupuncture needles may be placed in the lower back and also the legs, arms and front of the body.
Acupuncture treatment involves the insertion of very fine sterile needles into the patient's body. Generally, the patient will lie down on a comfortable massage bench whilst draped in towels or a blanket to provide warmth and protect modesty while they relax. Needles are generally left in place for 20-30 minutes. Tim follows the strict health, safety and conduct codes specified by the British Acupuncture Council.
Tui Na (TuiNa) uses a wide variety of massage techniques and manipulations such as kneading and pressing muscles and acu-points; limb rotations and stretches; gentle rocking motions and percussive techniques. Tim follows a traditional method, where the manipulations are performed over a soft sheet that covers the patient. Occasionally, clothing is removed or repositioned to expose a particular area that requires the application of herbal liniments to reduce bruising, ease inflammation and swelling, increase circulation and induce warmth.

Patients can book a treatment solely for acupuncture or Tui Na (Chinese therapeutic bodywork), or a combination of both.

Consultation Fees
Consultations, which include treatments are £50 for one hour.

Clinic Central is located between Upper Street and Essex Road in the heart of Islington, London N1.
This is within easy reach of Angel, King's Cross, Clerkenwell, The Barbican and The City, and within a couple of miles of Holloway, Camden, Kentish Town, Bloomsbury and Holborn.
