Pilates Central is a Pilates studio within easy reach of Pentonville and the surrounding area. We’re based in Islington with clients travelling for N1 like Clerkenwell, Holloway and Haggerston . The studio is a modern space containing different reformer machines under a glass roof.
Our teachers are mostly ex dancers with many years of experience. The studio has a variety of equipment at your disposal and you’ll be under constant supervision.
We’ll access you fully before any exercises are recommended.
Joseph Pilates, the father of Pilates developed his exercise philosophy over many years along with the development of the reformer, starting during the 1920s.
The reformer is easy to use under expert tuition but it can be slightly daunting at first glance.

You can lie, kneel, stand or sit as you use your body to glide on the carriage by pulling the straps or push on the foot bar.
Head Rest & Shoulder Blocks
The shoulder blocks keep your body stable as you move the carriage. Your feet, hands or knees can also use the blocks.
The Springs & Foot Bar
The foot bar allows you to move your body while on the carriage and is adjustable. Springs provide the resistance, combined with your body weight.
The Gear System
Adjusting the gears changes the tension of the springs.
Straps and Ropes
Reformer Machines vary, some have ropes and some straps. Straps connect to pulleys at the top of the reformer and you use them to move your body on the carriage.
During your sessions you’ll get to use the reformer for a variety of exercises that will strengthen your whole body and without causing any undue stress.
